Extremist Hindu priest Hari Singh calls for killing of minorities As hate speeches go unabated, will Jantar Mantar become the new spot for the Hinduvta forces to push their communal agenda?

More and more videos of anti-minority speeches are making the rounds on social media, but this speech might be the vilest and the most inciteful of them all. In these video, two speakers can be heard making anti-Muslim and provocative statement at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi. While one of the speakers is yet to be identified, the other speaker is a Hindu priest, Mahamandleshwar Swami Bhakt Hari Singh. There are two videos of his speech.

In the first video, the Hindu “Saint” can be seen addressing the media and saying that he has killed 80 people and will not die before scoring a century. The impunity with which Singh confesses his crimes and pledges to commit more is worrisome, and depicts the sorry state of our country.

In the second video, Singh delivers a hate speech while addressing an audience at an event. Singh makes open calls to Hindus to kill Muslims and Christians living in India, and to keep weapons at home. He urges them to kill those who dare to “break their temples”. While addressing the media, he insults the Courts of India by accusing them of siding with the ones that have money. He even calls out the current government at the centre for dividing Hindus for votes.

The statements made by him are as follows:

The first video:

80 ko kata hu, 83 saal ka hu. 83 marre aur 83 abhi zinda meri umar hai. Satak ab kar lunga tab maruga usse pehle nahi maruga. (I have cut 80 people, and I am 83 years old. 83 have been killed by me and I have been alive for 83 years. I will ensure that I die only after I kill 100 people, then I will die, not before that.)”

The video can be viewed here:

The second video:

Isayion ne Kaha Todho Kaato Raj karo, Musalmaano ne kaha Kato Maro. Arre bhai tum kab kaatoge, Maaroge? Jab tum sab marr jaoge? (The Christians said break them, cut them and then rule, the Muslims said cut and kill them. Hey brother, when will you cut, when will you kill? Will you do it after you die?)”

Kab maaroge? Arre Isayi, Musalmano ko kab maaroge? (When will you kill? When will you kill Christians and Muslims?)”

Arre tumhare paas kya hai jo maaroge? Arre itni si chaaku hai jisse sabzi katte ho, woh chakku se kuch nahi hone wala. Hathiyar rakho. (What do you have that you will use to kill? Only a knife with which you cut your vegetables. Nothing is going to happen with that knife. Keep weapons.)”

(Shoot them, whoever insults our religion, daughters and daughter-in-laws, cows, our holy texts, insults our culture, who breaks our temples, they should be killed and should not be left unhurt.)”

“Court bhi bika hua hai, paise walo ke haath mei. (The courts also have been bought, only in the hands of those who have money.)”

The next clip then shows Hari Singh in conversation with the media.

Reporter- “Maharaj ek baat batae jab aap mann ki baat toh jaan lete hai aur Hinduvadi Sarkar hai, toh ab Hinduyon ke upar khatra ho raha hai ya nahi ho raha hai yeh bhi toh mann ki baat jaante honge na. Sarkar ke mann mei kya hai? (Maharaj, tell me one thing, when you know what is there in the minds of individuals and there is a Hindu majority government, then now Hindus are being threatened, you must know? What is on the government’s mind?)”

Hari Singh- “Vote chahie. Haan. Ramayan ko faado, vote chahie. Hinduyon ko baanto, vote chahie. (They want votes. Tear up the Ramayana, they want votes. Divide Hindus, they want votes.)”

In the same video, another speaker can be heard speaking to the media. He continuously insults the Constitution of India and asserts that, for him, a Hindu nation has already been in existence since the Britishers and Mughals left. Attacking the Muslim community, he says that they can leave for Pakistan or Bangladesh if they feel otherised, but the Hindu nation will be set up. His statements are as follows:

Speaker 2:

“Hindustaniyon ko Hindustan mei rehne ke liye kisi sanvidhan ki zarurat nahi, dil se unki Hindu rashtra ki parikalpana ko sakaar karne ke liye ikhatha ek manch pe (Indians do not need any constitution to live in India, they are on one platform to realise their vision of Hindu Rashtra from the heart.)”

Reporter: “jab itne bhai chaare wali baat hai sir toh terminology ki zarurat kyu padh rahi hai ‘Hindu Rashtra’? yeh toh aisa lagta hia sir jese aap log naftrat faelana chahte hai, aisa lagta hai jese ek samuday ko bina baat ka push kiya jaa raha hai? (When there is so much brotherhood, why is there a need for terminology like ‘Hindu Rashtra’? It seems like sir, as if you want to spread hatred, it seems as if a community is being pushed?)”

Agar uss samuday ko darr lagta hai toh who samuday Pakistan ya Bangladesh chala jae. (“If that community is afraid, that community should go to Pakistan or Bangladesh.)”

“Hindu Rashtra ki Dharti Hindu rashtra hi hai. (The land of Hindus is Hindu Rashtra.)”

Reporter- “Hindu Rashtra toh nahi hai, Samvidhan toh nahi kehta hai. (There is no Hindu Rashtra, the Constitution does not say so.)”

Samvidhan kya kehta hai who aap samjho. Mere hisaab se Hindu rashtra tha aur Hindu Rashtra hai. Mughal chale gaye, Angrez chale gaye, toh yeh hindu rashtra hi hai. (Understand what the Constitution says. According to me, there was a Hindu Rashtra and there is a Hindu Rashtra. If the Mughals have gone, the British have gone, then this is a Hindu nation.)”

Recently, Jantar Mantar has become a hub for unabated hate speeches being delivered against religious minorities of India, especially the Muslim community. It is pertinent to note that hundreds of people attended the rally, and these hate speeches and slogans were raised in front of media crews. These hate speeches at Jantar Mantar in Delhi are the latest in a string of attempts by right-wing organisations to stoke communal passions.

There have been numerous protests at Jantar Mantar. Jantar Mantar, located near the Parliament, has seen various rebellions and dissent, as well as many youths being lathi-charged and arrested. The nation’s most famous protest site is, in fact, a place that provides a platform to all- people, ideas, beliefs, and causes – some valuable, others not so much. For many, it is a testing ground for novel experiments in social and political engineering. Jantar Mantar is an arena for political recruitment as well as social education. From protests against the Delhi Gang rape of 2012, the discriminatory Citizenship Amendment Act, unlawful police brutality at Jamia Millia Islamia to the recent protest against sexual harassment faced by the women wrestlers – Jantar Mantar has provided a perfect spot.

In recent times, Jantar Mantar has been used for different purposes. On August 8, 2021, rabid anti-Muslim slogans pierced the air at a rally organised by Hindu nationalist groups at Jantar Mantar in central. Some of them were highly communal and inflammatory:

“Jab mulle kate jayenge, Ram Ram chillayenge (Muslims will be cut in the name of Ram)

Suaron ki karo vidai, Hindu Hindu bhai bhai (Farewell to the pigs/Muslims, Hindus are brothers)

Hindustan mein rehna hoga, Ram Ram kehna hoga (If you want to stay in India, you must chant the name of Ram)

Band karo band karo, mullo ke vyapaar band karo (Shut down the businesses of Muslims).”

These anti-minority and anti-Muslim rallies have been allowed to happen unregulated in the heart of Delhi while the Delhi Police and the Chief Minister of Delhi have stood silently. Delhi has changed, and so has Jantar Mantar.
