One suspect has been held for desecrating the 100-year-old monument
The Christian residents of villages around Vile Parle (W) protested on Monday after they noticed that a holy cross situated on S V Road in the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) compound, a short distance from the Santacruz Bus Depot, had been vandalised by unknown miscreants on Monday morning, for the second time. On the basis of suspicion, one youth has been detained by the police for investigation.
According to the residents, the statue of Jesus Christ on the cross had been completely broken and the limbs have been hacked off. A lot of devotees gathered at the site to protest and later lodged an FIR at the Santacruz police station. On December 15, 2013, the same cross was vandalised by unknown miscreants and the accused are yet to be arrested in that case.
