Dipti Sarna, a 24-year-old legal executive with Snapdeal, returned home on Fridaymorning, almost 36 hours after she had gone missing. She told police she had been kidnapped by four men in a shared auto who said they “wanted her to meet someone (tumhe kisi se milana hai)“. Her father said she had not been harmed.
Ghaziabad police chief Dharmendra Singh said it could not be confirmed at this stage whether Dipti had indeed been kidnapped because “some facts in her version are open to verification.“ But police have started an investigation based on her statement. Police are drawing sketches of the “kidnappers“ who, according to Dipti, had “studied her for some time“ and even knew which brand of chips she liked. Dipti said she didn’t know any of the men but police are not ruling out the involvement of a person she knows.
Dipti told police her kidnappers kept her in confinement all of Thursday in a cane field before allowing her to go early on Friday because the “appointment had been called off “. Singhsaid she was given a Rs 100 note and directed to a railway station. Dipti went there and boarded a train to New Delhi but wasn’t able to tell police which station it was. She did, however, say that the train passed by Narela in Delhi, leading police to suspect that she might have boarded the train from Panipat.
Her father Narendra said Dipti called his mobile on Friday morning from a fellow passenger’s phone and told him she was safe and on her way to Vaishali Metro station. But he decided to go to New Delhi and bring her back from there himself.
