Says campaign targeting a particular community, spreading communal hatred
The Uttar Pradesh Minorities Commission on Wednesday issued a notice to District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police of Agra seeking report and recommending action against RSS-wing Bajrang Dal for allegedly running its ‘beti bachao, bahu lao’ campaign in Agra, which, the Commission said, is “targeting a particular community and spreading communal hatred”.
The Commission has asked the DM and the SSP to submit its action-taken report within a week, citing details of the officials who have “shown laxity” in taking prompt action since the right-wing outfit announced its campaign.
The Commission’s notice claims that the activists of Bajrang Dal had distributed pamphlets among college-going girl students in Agra a couple of days ago. These pamphlets, according to the notice, contained messages of “warning to the Hindu girls not to fall in the trap of ‘love jihad’”. This amounts to a hate campaign, the Commission points out, as it targets the Muslim community solely on a pre-conceived notion that “Muslim youths trap Hindu girls in relationships”.
