Haryana DGP orders police to visit villages after Dalit deaths

As Haryana government came under fire following deaths of Dalits, including two young siblings in last few days, Haryana’s Director General of Police (DGP) Yash Pal Singal on Wednesday ordered all Deputy Superintendents of Police (who have been designated as nodal officer under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989), to tour villages across the State and sort out their grievances.
Mr. Singal was presiding over a meeting of all the 21 Deputy Superintendents of Police from all districts of the State on Wednesday regarding various issues relating to Scheduled Castes.
“If any crime under Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act is reported, it should be promptly registered, investigated and challan be put in the court without delay,” said Mr. Singal.
