A 22-year-old engineer was booked on Monday by police under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) for sexually molesting a minor girl in Bardoli in Surat district.
Dharmesh J Patel had molested the seven-year-old class III student during his visit to her school at Allu village in Bardoli on October 15. Patel, who works for a private company, had gone to the school in connection with some work. He called out the girl and molested her. The girl narrated the episode to her parents who ap proached the principal and taluka education officer. Patel accepted his crime and gave an apology letter on a stamp paper of Rs 100 to the girl’s parents.
Taluka development officer sent a report to district development officer Vijay Kharadi subsequent to which Bardoli police were asked to file a plaint. “The engineer should be dismissed from his job. Our officials, who tried to work out a compromise between the accused and parents, have been reprimanded,“ Kharadi said.
