The Government of Uttar Pradesh, for curbing the spread of the Coronavirus in the state, had imposed a curfew from April 30, 2021 to May 4, 2021, which has now been extended till May 6, 2021.

As per the latest order, Government offices are expected to function at 50% of their capacity, while the remaining staff of these officers were expected to work from home – in shifts. People were expected to ensure Covid Appropriate Behaviour while travelling in buses. Meanwhile, senior citizens, pregnant women, children below the age of 10 years and those with disabilities were advised to remain indoors.

While essential services were allowed to operate, the Government requested the masses to not step out of the houses, unless necessary. The UP government assured that it was going to increase Covid testing during the said period and assured the functioning of the vaccination drive. Sanitization, whether in urban or rural areas, was to be undertaken daily.

These short durations of lockdown are unlikely to yield the necessary results – there is a dire need to ensure morelasting measures such as maximisation of vaccination of people, along with maintaining Covid appropriate behaviour such as compulsory mask wearing in public and social distancing.
