A Declared Foreigner is a person who has failed to prove his citizenship before a Foreigners’ Tribunal. Names of suspected foreigners and D Voters are referred to FTs who then conduct a trial where the proceedee is required to not only produce documents to prove their citizenship, but also prove the authenticity of the documents. If they fail, the FT designates them Declared Foreigner (DF). A DF can then be sent to one of the dreaded detention camps of Assam
Our inspiring achievement of releasing 52 detainees in 18 months needs to reach its logical conclusion, so that a cruel system does not deal them another body blow. Today they are only out on bail even though their documents were in order and yet they were cruelly incarcerated. Now that we have them out on bail, we will work tirelessly to get them formally declared Indian.
We are also committed to multiplying our efforts across many districts in Assam, ensuring the CJP experience with positive legal and paralegal interventions gets replicated so that thousands of victims of the Citizenship Crisis in Assam are benefitted, sooner than later. For this we need you more than ever!
