The house of Bharatiya Janata Party district president K. Ranjith at Palliyanmoola here came under bomb attack early on Sunday as sporadic incidents of violence continued in parts of the district. The house of a CPI(M) worker, identified as Surendran, at nearby Pallikkunnu also came under bomb attack on Sunday.
While Azhikode and nearby areas that had witnessed clashes between workers of the CPI(M) and the BJP on Saturday were incident-free on Sunday, reports of isolated incidents triggered fears of fresh violence.
Mr. Ranjith said the bomb hurled by suspected CPI(M) workers, who came on a motorcycle, hit his bedroom. He would have suffered injuries if the explosive had hit the windowpanes, he said. Bombs were hurled at the houses of BJP workers at nearby Thalikkavu and Chakkattupeedika late night on Saturday. Three BJP workers, G. Rajesh (24), K.K. Jithin (25), and Jeevan (20), were injured.
