Order adding to the list of places of Sensitive Origins Issued by the Department of Revenue and Forest, Disaster Management, Relief and Rehabilitation, Government of Maharashtra on May 1, 2021

In a bid to prevent an influx of the Coronavirus into the state, the Government of Maharashtra has declared the following states as “Sensitive origins”:
- West Bengal: The Coronavirus spread rapidly across West Bengal during the mammoth eight-phase elections. Large rallies and campaigning often saw participants failing to adopt Covid Appropriate Behaviour. With 17,512 cases reported in West Bengal as of May 1, 2021, Maharashtra Government has added the state to its list of places of “ Sensitive Origin” .
- Uttar Pradesh: This state reported around 30,000 cases as of May 1, 2021 with new cases growing with each passing day. The spread of infection is so serious, that Chief Minister Adityanath had himself contracted the disease. The Maharashtra Government deemed it fit to add this state to its list of places of “ Sensitive Origins”.
The state had previously issued such a list on April 18 and designated Kerala, Goa, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Delhi and the NCR region as places of “ Sensitive Origin” . Travellers hailing from these regions are required to carry a negative RT-PCR Test report conducted within 48 hours of their train travel. But the government appears to have failed to take into account the disturbing number of cases in Tamil Nadu (19,588 Cases as of May 1, 2021) and Seemandhra (19,412 Cases as of May 1, 2021), two regions that should be immediately added to the list.
