Caste violence erupts in Surendranagar, 10 injured

Violent clashes erupted in villages of Surendranagar on Monday, leaving at least 10 persons injured.
The caste violence was triggered by the murder of 55-year-old Rana Koli in Navagam village near Thangadh town, allegedly by members of Bharvad community.
On Monday afternoon, a mob intercepted a jeep carrying members of Koli community near Jamvali village between Chotila and Thangadh and attacked the travelers with axes and batons. Seven persons were injured in the attack and the jeep was badly damaged. The victims were returning to their native Morthal village near Than after attending Morari Bapu’s Ramayana Katha in Chotila The news of the attack spread like wildfire in Morthal and at about 4pm, around three Kolis allegedly attacked Gangabhai Bharvad, 50, with axes. Bharvad was rushed to primary health centre in Chotila and then referred to Rajkot civil hospital . The accused were identified as Gita Makwana, Navghan Koli and Ketal Koli.
