Earlier enforced by the Mira-Bhayander civic body
Buoyed by its success in banning the sale of meat in the Mira-Bhayander region during the entire Jain fasting festival Paryushan, the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) now wants to replicate it in Mumbai. The party has demanded that sale of meat should be prohibited in the metropolitan city too for the entire eight-day period of Paryushan.
The BJP-ruled Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has passed the proposal of banning sale of meat in its general body meeting. The ban will be enforced during the entire Paryushan period beginning from September 11 to 18. Last year meat sale was stopped for just two days in MBMC and four days in Mumbai.
When asked, BJP group leader in BMC Manoj Kotak said they would demand a ban on sale of meat for the entire Paryushan period in Mumbai as well.
