21, Jun 2014
Seven police personnel were injured after a mob pelted stones in Deopur, Dhule district, on Thursday night, in what was another case of offensive content on social media instigating violence. Twenty seven people from a minority community were arrested for rioting, said officials.
Earlier this month, a 28-year old IT professional was murdered in Pune, following violent protests over morphed pictures of Chhatrapati Shivaji and late Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray on a social networking site.
In Dhule, the situation was brought under control and a case has been registered against those who took part in the violence, said Deven Bharti, inspector general of police (law and order).
