A tantrik has been booked at Varachha police station on Saturday for allegedly raping a 25-yearold woman in her house in the city’s Varachha area last week. The accused went to the woman’s house on Wednesday and raped her after asking her family members to go out of the room for a ritual.

Shambhu Rabari, a resident of Udhna, sprinkled `water’ on the woman after which she lost her senses. The accused then allegedly raped her, police said.

The rape survivor’s husband had taken her to the tantrik as he thought she was under spell of someone’s black magic. Rabari told him he has to do some rituals to cure her of the black magic. Rabari performed some rituals at Udhna but since there was no change in the woman’s condition, he said he would have to come to their house.

“He checked the woman on Wednesday after arriving at 9pm and told her family members that he nee ded some privacy. He asked them to go out and cover the windows with clothes before raping the woman,“ said U L Gohil, police inspector, Varachha police station.He later left saying that she will soon be normal.

The woman informed members of her family that she was raped by the tantrik. She told the police that the tantrik sprinkled water on her which made her unconscious before raping her. The accused is yet to be arrested.
