A new video of the Delhi Police beating students during a protest at the RSS headquarters in the city, which emerged Tuesday, shows two men dressed in civilian clothes standing amid police personnel just minutes before the baton charge was ordered. In an earlier video, the men were seen assaulting the student protesters even as police denied they were part of the force.
The baton charge on students, which sparked outrage in Delhi, was ordered as a protest march outside the RSS headquarters in Jhandewalan against Dalit research scholar Rohith Vemula’s suicide wound to a close.
Under sharp criticism from Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi and students’ associations, police chief B S Bassi has ordered a probe into the use of violence against the students.
In the new video, the two men are seen standing with the deployed police force behind a barricade, while students on the other side attempted to push through. The Station House Officer, Paharganj, Rajender Kumar is also seen standing next to one of the men — wearing a dark blue sleeveless jacket. The other man in a full-sleeve jacket is seen next to them.
