Two upper caste villagers refused to eat mithai (sweets) during a function at a school on the occasion of the Republic Day in Sehore district saying it was contaminated after a Dalit student touched it.
The Shahganj Police have booked Gaurishankar Gaur and Ghanashyam Patel under various sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the IPC after a signed complaint was filed about the incident in the government middle school in Akola village, about 75 kilometers from Bhopal.
The duo refused to touch mithai after Sumant Ahirwar, a Dalit student brought it from a room as directed by a school teacher.
Head Constable Chandrashekhar told The Indian Express on Thursday that a sub-divisional police officer was probing the incident and the case diary will be soon sent to the SC/ST police station. No one has been arrested so far.
