A 24-year-old software engineer with a top IT compa ny was allegedly given a spi ked drink by a colleague at a restaurant on Saturday eve ning and later raped by him and his four techie friends at an apartment in Dhanori.
The five suspects and a wo man software professional, at whose rented apartment the alleged rape occurred, have been arrested.
The survivor, who lives at Yerwada, lodged a complain with the Mundhwa police on Sunday morning. She said the suspects forced themselves upon her while she was unconscious. Soon after, she was admitted to the Sassoon general hospital, from where she gave a detailed statement to the police. Her medical report has confirmed rape.
After the woman lodged the complaint, a police team went to the Dhanori flat and nabbed the five suspects and their woman techie friend. The six, all aged between 23 and 30, were still partying at the apartment when the police landed there.
Assistant commissioner of police Ravindra Rasal told TOI that the software company where the survivor works had organized a function on Saturday night. Her colleague agreed to accompany her for the function.
Rasal said the woman picked him up in her car and they drove to a restaurant at Koregaon Park. However, both she and the colleague did not like the ambience there and moved to another restaurant. “The woman had two glasses of iced tea and started feeling dizzy. We suspect the tea was spiked . The woman was unable to walk and the colleague took her to the car. Instead of dropping her home, he drove off to Dhanori,“ he said. Rasal said the other suspects were having a party at the apartment when the woman and her colleague reached there. “The woman was kept in the bedroom, where it is suspected that the five men raped her in turns,“ he said.
