Mehbooba Mufti moves to offer amnesty to first-time stone pelters

Officials said Jammu & Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti has proclaimed amnesty for those involved in stone pelting for the first time, the Hindustan Times reported. On November 22, Mufti tweeted, “It gives me immense satisfaction to restart the process of withdrawing FIRs against first-time offenders of stone pelting,” adding that the process had been started in May 2016 but had “stalled” because of “unrest later that year.”
