Kamra tells the Bombay High Court that owing to the Sahyog portal ordinary police officers are able to order takedown of content. His counsel further informs the court that there have been new amendments to the IT rules by the Central government. In lieu of these reasons, the Court granted time to Kamra to tweak his plea.
February 2026
Kamra was summoned by the Privileges Committee of the Maharashtra Legislative Council on February 17. However, the hearing was adjourned because of absence of the main complainant from the house.
February 4, 2026
Kamra files a PIL challenging the constitutionality of the Sahyog portal. The portal was created in 2024 by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, to automate the processing of content takedown and blocking orders for online content. As per the PIL this Portal coupled with the Rule 3(1)(d) of the Amended IT Rules creates a "parallel blocking regime" that allows government officials to order the removal of social media content without following the required procedural safeguards.

The Bombay High Court granted protection to Kamra from arrests that could arise because of the FIR. However, the court did not quash the FIR
April 8,9, 2025
Kamra moves the Bombay High Court to quash the FIR stating that there was no application of mind by the Police before filing the FIR. The court further dismissed a PIL that pleaded the court to recognise Kamra’s video as protected speech.
March 2025
Kamra mocks the deputy CM of Maharashtra in the fag-end of a comedy video that he had uploaded on YouTube. A Zero FIR was lodged under Sections 353(1)(b), 353(2) (Public mischief) and 356(2) (Defamation) BNS by Shiv Sena MLA Muraji Patel. Kunal was granted anticipatory bail from the Madras High Court in pursuance of these FIRs. A bunch of Shiv Sena workers had destroyed and vandalised the venue at which Kunal had performed the show—though they were subsequently granted bails.

April 2023
Kamra filed a PIL in the Bombay High Court challenging the constitutionality of the Fact Checking Units (FCUs) set up through the amendments to the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. These FCUs gave executive, unbridled power to flag any information regarding the government as “false”, “fake” or “misleading” and in turn, ask the intermediaries (Social Media sites) to remove them without following any due process.

CJI Chandrachud recused himself from the contempt case that pertained to the posts made by Kamra in the backdrop of SC granting bail to Arnab. The reason being he was one of judges who granted the bail. The matter (all contempt of court petitions are clubbed) has not been heard since then.

The Supreme Court issued a show cause notice to Kamra over his tweets from November 2020. He was asked to explain why action should not be taken against him for contempt of court. Kamra refused to apologise for his tweets or retract the statements on the grounds of his right to freedom of expression.
November 2020
Kunal criticised the Supreme Court for granting immediate interim bail to Arnab Goswami (for abatement to suicide), while constantly denying bail to Human right activists. He dubbed the court as “Supreme Joke of India” and posted a morphed saffron-coloured image of the Supreme Court building with a BJP flag hoisted in the Court's foyer, suggesting that the Court is hand-in-glove with the ruling government. He also made a post on X showing the middle finger to the then Chief Justice of India S.A. Bobde. On accounts of this, the then attorney general of India granted the requisite permission to pursue a criminal contempt case against him.

Kamra calls the Supreme Court a “Bahman Baniya [Upper Caste] Arbitration Centre” alleging that there is no representation of the ST, SC, OBC in the Court while also alleging a consistent bias against these communities. Following these comments, a Criminal contempt of court petition was filed against him.
