Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai of Karkadooma Court granted Interim bail to Khalid Saifi in lieu of a wedding function. The court, as part of the conditions on bail, has mandated Saifi to keep his mobile phone turned ‘ON’ at all times, prohibited him from leaving Delhi NCR region and, asked him to not contact media or any prosecution witness.

Saifi moves the Supreme Court challenging the Delhi High Court order that denied him bail. The bench orally denied on the ground of parity for bail. Saifi sought parity with five other co-accused who were granted bail on January 5, 2026. The court has tagged the matter with Tasleem Ahmed’s plea for bail (another co-accused in larger Delhi riots case).

Delhi High Court rejected his bail application. The court seemingly accepted prosecution’s argument that the riots were the result of a “premeditated, well-orchestrated conspiracy,” not a spontaneous event. It further stated that only delay in trial cannot be a ground of bail as the accusations are grave in nature.

Shahdara District Court on January 19 framed charges against Saifi under Indian Penal Code Sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with a deadly weapon), 149 (unlawful assembly), 186 (obstructing public servant), 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), section 307 (attempt to murder), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to public servant) and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty).

Delhi Court rejects Delhi Police’s plea to produce Khalid Saifi and Umar Khalid by handcuffing them in both hands. Police had claimed the need to handcuff was on grounds of both being high risk prisoners. But the court held that they are not “previous convicts or gangsters”.
