On March 5, 2024, the Nagpur Bench of Bombay High heard the matter afresh and acquitted G N Saibaba who was charged under the UAPA. The court stated that, “ “In fact since the prosecution has failed to establish the electronic evidence in accordance with law, the said material need not be gone into as evidence in this case.” Furthermore, it also stated that evidence that had ‘merit’ was not adequate enough for the court. The court sharply criticised the investigation.

October 14, 2022
On October 14, 2022, the Bombay High Court Friday acquitted G N Saibaba for charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). He had been sentenced to life imprisonment in 2017 as it was said he had links to Maoist groups. However, the very same day the Maharashtra government challenged the judgement which led to an urgent hearing in the Supreme Court the following day.
A day later a Supreme Court bench composed of Justice Bela Trivedi and Justice M.R. Shah stayed the acquittal after it heard Maharashtra state's special leave petition on a Saturday, which is a non-working day for courts. It also rejected a bail plea as well.
