Claim: Kerala politician PC George claimed that Muslim-run restaurants were lacing tea with ‘drops’ that caused impotency.

Busted: This is what is taught only in WhatsAap university and has never been backed up by any scientific evidence.

These days communal hate is fed by what is known as fake news promoted by right wing trolls. However, PC George, a veteran politician, is a six-time Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), and was once a member of KC(M), a Congress ally.

CJP is dedicated to finding and bringing to light instances of Hate Speech, so that the bigots propagating these venomous ideas can be unmasked and brought to justice. To learn more about our campaign against hate speech, please become a member. To support our initiatives, please donate now!

He was arrested soon after this hate comment and accused of “promoting enmity between different religious groups under Section 153A of the IPC.” According to news reports, though he was accused of non-bailable offence, George was granted bail by a magisterial court.

While the politics over the hate speech, arrest and bail of the 71-year old politician continues to simmer, it is his call of asking non-Muslims in Kerala to boycot Muslim-run restaurants that needs to be callled out. It was at the Ananthapuri Hindu Maha Sammelan last week that he made the ridiculous claim of “some kind of drops that cause impotence” be used. He also talked of the right-wing favourite “love jihad” and an “agenda to establish a Muslim country” by “sterilising men and women (of other faith)” stated news reports.

Such claims have been made in the past by many right-wing trolls, under the titles such as “Biryani Jihad” which claimed biryani laced with birth control was sold at a Muslim shop in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

However, as multiple medical journals and websites explain, impotency, a.k.a Erectile Dysfunction (ED) “is the most common sex problem that men report to their doctor. It affects as many as 30 million men.” According to Urologyhealth.org, it occurs “most often when blood flow in the penis is limited or nerves are harmed; with stress or emotional reasons; as an early warning of a more serious illness, like: atherosclerosis (hardening or blocked arteries), heart disease, high blood pressure or high blood sugar from Diabetes.”

Therefore, if one does end up experiencing ED, they should contact their doctor, instead of blaming the friendly neighbourhood biryani restaurant. Find ways to relieve stress and develop healthy coping mechanisms to accept the lifestyles and cuisines of others. Muslim-owned restaurants don’t give you ED, stress does.
