Police say the 30-year-old constable drowned himself in the sea off Vasai, but his wife claims he was framed, murdered
A constable attached to the Vasai Gaon police station, battling depression ever since he had been suspended after his colleague accused him of attacking her, drowned himself in the sea off Panchu Bunder in Vasai, police officials said. His body was washed ashore on Sunday morning at the Bunder, Vasai Gaon cops said.
Vinod Kashinath Pardhi, 30, was suspended on January 26 after lady constable Asha Pawar, 50, attached with the same police station, had framed charges against him under sections 352 (assault or criminal force), 504 (insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (act intended to outrage the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code in December. The two were neighbours.
After Pawar’s complaint, Pardhi’s seniors suspended him, and he slipped into depression. He told his wife, Rekha, that Pawar had framed him and that he had done nothing to her. Since Pardhi did not return home on the night of February 5, a worried Rekha filed a `missing person’ complaint the day after with the Vasai Gaon police.
“Around 10 on Sunday morning, Pardhi’s body was found near Panchu Bunder and was identified by his wife, Rekha. We have registered a case of accidental death. His post-mortem report is yet to be received,“ said a Vasai Gaon police officer.
