Violence broke out between two communities in a village under Sultanpur Ghosh police station area of Fatehpur district in UP on Thursday over the route taken for idol procession. The villagers took the procession through a route on which a local mosque falls.
Police said at least two houses were partially damaged in arson, while three motorcycles and two bicycles were also set on fire. Both the sides also indulged in stone pelting. However, there were no major injuries, the police said.
Meanwhile, PAC and local force has been deployed and senior officials, including Deputy Inspector General (Allahabad Range), visited the village. Police said the situation has been brought under control.
Fatehpur District Magistrate Rajiv Rautela said the problem started when an idol procession was routed along a mosque in Mandwa village instead of the outskirts of the village, which was decided earlier.
