Twenty people have been arrested for the violence that erupted on Friday in Mainpuri after an angry mob went on the rampage allegedly over rumours of cow slaughter. Even as the situation in the village remained tense and heavy security was deployed in the area to maintain law and order,Uttar Pradesh director general of police Jagmohan Yadav placed the Karhal circle officer under suspension for negligence.
Additional superintendent of police Swami Nath told TOI on Saturday that 18 men from the mob have been sent to jail. All of them were arrested for their role in the violence that erupted on Friday . These people were arrested on the basis of video footage captured by the police while the mob was setting shops and police vehicles on fire.
