MUMBAI: A woman in her early twenties was arrested by the Malwani police on Tuesday for allegedly murdering her lover with the help of her husband.
According to the police, Saira Bano Shaikh was having an extra-marital affair with Chandan Yadav, the 22-year-old man whose partially-decomposed body was found in his house on Monday afternoon. The two were neighbours in New Collector’s Compound in Malwani.
Police said the Saira’s husband had recently found out about the affair which led to a fight between the three.
During the interrogation, Saira broke down and told the police that she and her husband had used a beer bottle to hit Yadav in the head on January 15. They had then slit Yadav’s throat using a sharp weapon, said police.
“After the murder, Saira’s husband locked the door from the outside. However by Monday, neighbours smelled the stink and informed us,” said an officer from Malwani police station.
Yadav had moved into the neighbourhood a few months ago after Saira got him a room next to her house.
