Order for engaging Nursing Students Issued by Department of Health And Family Welfare, Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi on April 20

As the number of Covid-19 cases relentlessly grows, the existing infrastructure, especially in terms of manpower is proving to be inadequate. The Delhi Government has therefore directed the Directors/ Superintendents to engage nursing students from such medical and nursing colleges at Rs. 810/- per shift of 8 hours to assist the nursing staff.
While this appears to be a bandaid measure, the main reasons for the spread of the pandemic cannot be brushed under the carpet, especially the inadequate testing, failure to implement Covid Appropriate Behaviour, the unplanned easing of movement restrictions and failure to prevent large public gatherings.
