In November 2009, a few days before his proposed visit to Oman, Narendra Modi was humiliated. The Embassy of Oman issued a statement that the Oman government had nothing to do with Mod’s visit and he was being hosted by a private port company. The statement left the CM red faced because he had earlier claimed that he was going to Oman on an official visit. The embassy issued this clarification after protests from human rights groups that Modi should not be permitted to enter Oman because of the role him and his government played during the 2002 Gujarat riots.
