It’s the need of hour to accept the NRC with some errors Niyamiya Barta

The National Register of Citizens (NRC) is the result of the non stop process of the last decade. Though it has some errors, it’s not completely wrong. Therefore, the Assam Public Works (APW) main petitioner, who filed petition regarding the updation of NRC has urged to accept the NRC which has been published under the guidance of Supreme Court of India. It’s remarkable that the urge has been made by Abhijeet Sarma the chief of APW.

It is also notable that after the publication of the final NRC on August 31, 2019, the APW has filed several petitions for the cent percent correct NRC. However, the sudden change of the NGO’s statement has been taken seriously. Sarma said that Covid-19 has become dangerous all over the world including Assam, India. The shortage of oxygen has become acute across many parts of India. To demand for a new NRC by expending over Rs. 1600 Cr is not realistic at all. He also said that in this situation it’s the time to accept the NRC scientifically with some errors. However, Sarma didn’t change his earlier stand that 40% names have been wrongly included in the NRC. In this, he said that APW  has already stated that NRC is a huge database. Almost two years have passed, but NRC is still the same. Therefore, it should accept now and the next move should be taken according to the law. Otherwise the foreigners we have found out, those will also become national.
“We will protest against Bangladeshi and Bangladesh will go far away from us. Politics should be stopped on illegal immigrants otherwise in future we will be dependent upon Bangladesh” said Sarma. He also said, “The APW will appeal before the newly appointed Chief Justice of India NV Ramana in this matter”. As an organisation, the APW will also make a statement soon through an affidavit, Sarma says.
