Zahira stay in plush hotel raises doubts

Baroda, Nov. 3: Even
as Zahira Sheikh has claimed that she has managed to escape from Teesta
SetalvadÂ’s captivity, questions are being raised about her stay in Baroda
and as to who is sponsoring her stay at the plush Hotel Surya Palace in
Baroda.
Late
on Wednesday night, sources said Zahira had left the hotel for security
reasons. Though she had left the hotel for an unknown destination, she was
still booked with the hotel.
The
Surya Palace hotel in the Sayajigunj area has various rooms ranging up to
Rs 2,000 per day and questions are being raised about how Zahira is
managing to stay in this hotel.
Also,
while Zahira claimed that she came to Baroda from Mumbai by road, the
Baroda police has confirmed that she arrived by air. Detectives of the
Crime Branch received her at the airport.
Even
the Baroda police does not know why Zahira lied to it about her journey.
Questions are also being asked how Zahira, as she claimed in her statement
before journalists, managed to escape from “captivity of Setalvad” and
address a press conference at a plush hotel in Baroda in a matter of only
24 hours.
It
also remains unanswered who convinced her and brought her back to Baroda.
Incidentally, Zahira checked into Hotel Surya Palace, a three-star hotel,
and addressed a press conference there.
After
the press conference, she retired to her room in the same hotel. Hotel
officials declined to comment on who made the reservation and for how long
Zahira would stay there.
Sources said that Zahira had contacted the Baroda police commissioner, Mr
Sudhir Sinha, and when she arrived at Baroda on a flight at around 1 pm,
Crime Branch officials received her at the airport. Meanwhile, her
affidavits at Baroda were ready for presentation to the Baroda collector
and police commissioner. However, if the highly-placed sources are to be
believed, it is another plank of the Modi government to weaken the Best
Bakery case.
