Sundresh and Rajesh Bindal dismissed Singh’s SLP against the Jharkhand High Court’s order denying him bail, stating it was “not inclined to interfere.” The Supreme Court’s order did not elaborate further, merely affirming the conclusions reached by the High Court.

The Jharkhand High Court bench of Justices Sujit Narayan Prasad and Navneet Kumar dismissed Singh’s appeal against the Sessions Court’s bail rejection in FIR No. 67 of 2022, observing “no illegality in the order dated 22.09.2022” and “no merit in the appeal.”

The Jharkhand High Court division bench of Justices Rongon Mukhopadhyay and Ambuj Nath set aside the Sessions Court’s order dated 02.12.2022 rejecting Singh’s bail and directed his release on bail in connection with Jageshwar Bihar P.S. Case No. 16 of 2022.

Regular bail was dismissed by the District and Additional Sessions Judge-II, Seraikela, in connection with FIR No. 67 of 2022.

Two fresh cases have been filed against journalist Rupesh Singh after his arrest on July 17. One of the cases is based on a first information report (FIR) filed against ‘unknown persons’ on June 30 in Jharkhand’s Bokaro district at Jageshwar Police Station. Rupesh is not among the seven accused named. The other case pertains to an FIR filed on April 26 in Rohtas, Bihar, and is being handled by the NIA.

Singh’s residence was raided early Sunday morning and continued till 2 pm. He has also reportedly been arrested by the police in connection with a 2021 case. The police have alleged that Singh used to arrange funds for Maoists.

Singh was granted bail as police could not file a chargesheet within the stipulated time of 180 days.

Singh was booked by the Bihar police under the draconian UAPA for allegedly carrying detonators and gelatin sticks. It was claimed that Singh worked for the Naxals. He was lodged in Shergati jail in Gaya district.
