Hatebuster: the man who stabbed ASI Dayal was NOT Mohammad Anis Many news channels misinformed that the accused was Mohammad Anis, while his name is Anish Raj

On January 10, AltNews did a fact check on the name of the accused who, in broad daylight, stabbed ASI Shambhu Dayal of Delhi Police, who later succumbed to his injuries. In a CCTV footage, it can be clearly seen that a young man is stabbing Dayal while people watch and when the crowd came forward to rescue Dayal, the accused, Anish threatened them as well, with the knife.
While this was the point of the news, many news channels, including the ever so notorious Sudarshan News, ANI, Times Now Navbharat, Aaj Tak and NDTV misrepresented the name of the accused as Mohammad Anish or Mohammad Anees. In all possibility this was done to misrepresent the man who stabbed a police officer as belonging to the Muslim community, another opportunity for these mainstream channels to exploit the communal angle to their benefit.
CJP is dedicated to finding and bringing to light instances of Hate Speech, so that the bigots propagating these venomous ideas can be unmasked and brought to justice. To learn more about our campaign against hate speech, please become a member. To support our initiatives, please donate now!
AltNews founder Mohammed Zubair pointed out how these channels reported the news, with Sudarshan News even calling the accused a “Jihadi”

To verify this, AltNews accessed a press release issued by the Delhi Police via WhatsApp on January 4, where the accused was called Anish, son of Prahlad Raj. Further a news report by Indian Express named him Anish Raj. To verify it for sure, the portal even spoke to the station in-charge of Mayapuri West who confirmed that the accused was not a Muslim and there was no communal angle to the incident.
