This Vijayadashami will mark the 90th foundation day of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and at least two firsts: one, it will be the first instance of a Maharashtra chief minister in `ganvesh’ -the RSS uniform of khaki shorts, white shirt and a black cap; and, two, it will also be the first time that a serving government official will be on the centrestage as the chief guest, alongside Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat.
Niti Aayog member Vijay Kumar Saraswat, the former chairman of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), will be the chief guest at the rally at Reshimbagh where around 1,000 swayamsevaks will present martial arts drill before Bhagwat’s speech.
For Devendra Fadnavis, this will be his first Vijayadashami rally after becoming Maharashtra CM. He, along with another BJP stalwart and now Union minister, Nitin Gadkari, have never missed the annual event although they’ve had to sit in a separate enclosure away from the centrestage that has seats reserved only for the RSS chief, the chief guest and the local unit head.
