Court takes up case
of delayed justice

– By Our Correspondent

Ahmedabad, Oct. 19:
Unexplainable delay in serving summons to the accused police
personnel, who allegedly killed 21-year-old Farhan Kadri from close range
during 2002 riots in Ahmedabad, has dragged the Ahmedabad metropolitan
court to the Gujarat high court.

VictimÂ’s father Zahid Kadri
and Teesta Setalvad of CitizenÂ’s for Peace Justice moved the court on
Wednesday alleging that even as the metropolitan magistrate of court
number 15 issued summons to the accused on June 24, 2002, the proceedings
under section 202 of CrPc are still pending.

The high court directed the
magistrate to send the report of the progress of the case on or before
November 21, after the petition alleged that the magistrate has not
initiated any steps to serve the summons to the government officers, nor
tried to inquire the reasons as to why the summons are not being served
till date.
