Memorandum to Chief
Minister of Maharashtra for Shaheen Dhada Case
A delegation of citizens
from various organizations including Citizens for Justice and Peace
Mumbai and change.org
(with 21,537 signatures) met CM Maharashtra Prithviraj Chavan to
press for dropping of charges against Shaheen Dhada and Renu
Srinivasan, compensation for the vandalism of Dr DhadaÂ’s clinic,
prosecution of police officers and Shiv Sainiks for unlawful acts
including abetting and inciting illegal actions. The CM has assured
the delegation that criminal cases will be pursued efficaciously and
the FIR against Shaheen and Renu would be dropped forthwith. Other
criminal cases against Sainiks too would be pursued in seriousness
as also the legal training and sensitisation of police officers. The
fact that young women were detained after sunset and kept waiting
all night requires urgent attention, the delegation stressed Anil
Dharkar, Raghunandan Maluste, Javed Anand and Teesta Setalvad were
