Tension simmers in Lucknow after the Allahabad high court directed the Lucknow district magistrate to reopen the locks on the Imambaras and maintain law and order around the monuments.
The gates of the two monuments were locked by the protesters — majority of them supporters of Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawwad — on June 4 and the 20-day lockout has caused a loss of over Rs 1.5 crore, which would have been collected mainly from sale of tickets to tourists in this period.
Late on Tuesday night, Maulana Kalbe Jawwad addressed a mammoth crowd of his supporters and blamed the state administration of hiding facts from the court.
