A jaat panchayat (community court) has threatened to socially boycott a family, after a girl complained of molestation by a community leader’s son in Brahmani village of Rahuri tehsil in Ahmednagar district. The family has now appealed to Andhshraddha Nirmulan Samiti (ANS) for help.
The girl, a class 10 student from Ghodegaon in Rahuri, had objected to accused Akshay Shamrao Sawant’s advances and lodged a police complaint on August 7, 2014. The police had arrested Sawant, but he was granted bail and is currently free. After the incident, senior members of Nagpanthi Davari Gosavi warned the girl’s family of social boycott if they did not withdraw the case.
