Anil Joshi Was Awarded For Collection Of Essays
After tribal activist Ganesh Devy, another Gujarati litterateur poet Anil Joshi returned his Sahitya Akademi Award. Joshi on Monday wrote a letter to Sahitya Akdemi president professor Viswanath Pratap Tiwari informing him about his decision to return the award in protest of attacks on scholars and intellectuals in the country.
“I am returning this award from Vadodara ­ the land of Premanand and Gujarat ­ the land known for peace icon Mahatma Gandhi and legendary poet Umashankar Joshi,“ said Joshi, the first Gujarati poet to return the Akademi award.
