The Police Commissioner said that they, in fact, had evidence against the JNUSU president on the basis of which he was arrested.
Dismissing media reports on a Delhi Police internal report not mentioning Kanhaiya Kumar as raising anti-India slogans, Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi on Wednesday said those pointing fingers at him were ill advised.
Talking to journalists, Mr. Bassi said that they, in fact, had evidence against the JNUSU president on the basis of which he was arrested.
Earlier sources had said the four-page report says Kanhaiya was present at the event, but is silent on him raising slogans, leave alone anti-India slogans. Kanhaiya has been charged with sedition, suggesting he was involved in “anti-national activities.
Police sources had confirmed to The Hindu that such a report had been prepared by the Special Branch but hadn’t been submitted to the top brass of the police.
While the purported report talks about police zeroing in on Democratic Student Union’s Umar Khalid and others, Mr. Bassi said that investigators have found some outsiders were also involved apart from JNU students.
