Sisters-in-law, Mothers-in-law Figure High In List of Accused
When GVK-EMRI launched the service to help aggrieved women in Gujarat last year, little did it expect that it would receive maximum complaints against the same gender. The service while helping women in distress found that the cause of grievance in most cases are also women -some in form of `saas’ and others in form of `nanands’.
Throughout its first year of being in service, 181 Abhayam ranked domestic violence as the number one complaint. However, most of these cases stemmed from the women in the family including mothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
