Keeping the tradition of a police inspector performing a havan (religious ritual) at a temple in Rakhial for prosperity and peace of the area, Barkatali Chavda, a Muslim and inspector of the area, performed the rituals for the second consecutive year.
“When I took charge last year, I learned about the tradition of a havan on the day before Sharad Purnima and volunteered to keep it alive. Almost all police station staff -irrespective of caste or religion -participate in the ritual at Vahanvati Mata temple which is just next to Rakhial police station. It is believed that the ritu al brings peace and prosperity to the area. I had then decided to participate,“ said Chavda.
On Monday, over 200 locals gathered at the temple in addition to police officials and personnel as the police station provided a meal to all participants.
