Churchgate RPF Team Chased Down Accused
In the second such incident at Churchgate this week, a man barged into the ladies compartment of a Western Railway local and harassed women commuters on Wednesday . The accused, Tarak Soni, 51, was nabbed soon after by a team of Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel. But when one of the victims approached the Government Railway Police (GRP) outpost at Churchgate to lodge an FIR, she was turned away . Only after TOI’s intervention the GRP started the process of registering an FIR on Friday evening.
A 22-year-old student and an older woman were the only travellers in the second-class ladies coach of a Churchgatebound local at around 9.40pm on Wednesday . “The train halted near Wankhede stadium and we were at the door, preparing to alight. Suddenly , Soni climbed in from the tracks. He took one of the seats. We were worried as there was no escorting cop in the compartment,“ the student told TOI. “Later, he got up and stood at the other door. He was constantly staring at us and smiling. We were scared and uncomfortable with his leering and held on to our bags tightly. Soon, he came and stood next to us, forcing us to abandon our position. For the next few minutes, he followed us wherever we stood in the compartment,“ the student added.
