Pregnant woman raped, burnt by her neighbour in Kanpur

A 30-year-old pregnant woman was allegedly raped and set on fire by her neighbour in a village on the city’s outskirts, on Monday afternoon. She suffered 80% burn injuries and died at Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital on Monday night.
Her husband named his neighbour, Brij Kishore, as accused in the FIR registered on Tuesday morning.
Kishore, who allegedly assaulted the woman on Monday afternoon when she was alone at home, is absconding. The woman’s husband and other family members were watering their fields at the time. They rushed home on being informed by neighbours.
The family alleged poli ce were reluctant to lodge an FIR, and a case of rape and murder was registered only on the instructions of senior superintendent of police Shalabh Mathur. “An FIR has been registe red against the accused, Brij Kishore, under various sections, including 376 and 302 of IPC. Raids are on to nab him,“ Mathur said.
