Setting an example of communal harmony, a local social group at Hans Road in Byculla (west), which has been organising a 10-day discourse during Muharram since 1984, has postponed its programme till the conclusion of Navratri so that a dandiya programme is not disturbed.
“For the past many years we organise waaz (discourse) for 10 days in the Islamic New Year and this time too we had taken permission in advance for the same from October 14 to 24. However, sometime back we realised that Navratri is also falling on the same dates and our Hindu brothers would be organising dandiya and both of our programmes are held so close that they were bound to be disturbed by each other so we decided to postpone the sermons till Navratri is over,” said Mohammed Nasir, president of Noor-e-Islam Young Social Group. The waaz is organised at Khalifa Chawl at Hans Road in Byculla (west).
