Attempt to burn SRK effigy outside city hotel foiled

Right-wing groups continued their protest on Sunday against film star Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) who is in the city to shoot for his upcoming film `Raees’.On Saturday , protesters had pelted stones on a car in SRK’s convoy and, on Sunday , they tried to burn an effigy of the actor outside a hotel on Ashram Road.
Police have arrested seven members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) who had indulged in stone pelting on Saturday , for rioting. Around 17 members of the BJP Yuva Morcha have been detained for the attempt to burn the actor’s effigy on Sunday .
Those detained and arrested by the police said they were protesting against the statement Shah Rukh had made on intolerance in India. Later, however, the actor had apologized for his remark.
Sunday’s incidents were the second time in the past 10 days in which the actor was targeted by right-wing organizations. Earlier, the VHP had protested at shooting locations in Bhuj. After that, the police were forced to increase security for Shah Rukh and the film crew .
