The unending plight of migrant workers in Bengal

Ripon Sheikh, a CJP fellow, travels around Birbhum, West Bengal to document the condition of those migrant workers, and their families, who have lost their sources of income amid lockdown, and forced to work on others’ fields, earning way less than they used to. The condition is so grave that kids, as young as nine or ten years, are working on the fields to help their families, often rolling beedis to earn a little more.

CJP is training young men and women like Ripon, belonging to the communities that we work with, to document the world around them and bring the real narratives of marginalised people to light.
