What we do with Students

9

Khoj is an innovative educational approach, evolved over 20 years of actual engagement inside classrooms with thousands of school students in the 10-13 year age group (Std. V – Std. VII).

9

Khoj is based on the premise that the young are as capable of thinking and feeling as adults and need to be the vital recipients of a curricular experiment in deepening Indian Constitutional Values within the classroom. Provided a discursive classroom atmosphere, where not only are they encouraged to express their thoughts and feelings, but encouraged to debate and dialogue, youthful conviction in genuine democracy and sharing grows, leading to the opening of minds and hearts. As they absorb the experience of their own thoughts and feelings being respected, they learn to respect other points of view, live with differences, and cherish diversity.

9

Khoj is not an extra-curricular activity. Integrated into the Social Studies/History curriculum, it is part of the classroom experience augmented through supplementary educational material. Frequent field visits provide a bridge between the school and the community.

9

Through actual classroom engagements Khoj has demonstrated in practice that when young minds are engaged as active participants rather than passive recipients of information, learning can be fun, a two-way process in which the teacher learns along with the taught.
