BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav on Thursday urged those who had returned awards to protest against the alleged rise in intolerance, to consider the impact of such acts on the country’s image.

Madhav told reporters the BJP would honour the country’s diversity and always strive for equality . Without naming actor Aamir Khan, he said: “On the one hand you teach auto drivers to safeguard the country’s honour, but on the other you aren’t teaching your wife to respect one’s nation. This is not right.“ Khan had recently said his wife had wondered if they should leave the country since she feared for the safety of their child in a “climate of insecurity“.
