Pune student sexually assaulted, robbed

A 19-year-old student of a prominent city college was sexually assaulted and robbed while she was reading a book in Hanuman Tekdi hillock here on Wednesday evening.
Vijay Vikas Kamble, 21, was arrested after the woman lodged a complaint on Thursday . Kamble had two cases of robbery registered against him earlier.

Police said the student stayed as a paying guest in the city. “After her classes, she goes to a gym. For the past one week, she had been going up the hillock to read her books and would return around sunset.” On Wednesday , the woman reached the hillock around 6.30pm and started reading her book. “Around 6.45pm, an unidentified man grabbed her from the back and gagged her. He kept repeating `paisa’ (money) in Hindi. When she tried to hold on to her purse, the suspect snatched it from her,“ police said.

In her statement the student said the accused dragged her about 15 feet from the spot where she was reading.
