ULFA chief’s mother rejects Assam CM’s aid

GUWAHATI: Mother of elusive rebel commander Paresh Barua has rejected Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi’s offer of financial aid for treatment.
Miliki Barua, 87, was one of two women for whom Gogoi had extended ` 1,00,000 from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund on Wednesday. The other is filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi.
“I am old and won’t live long. I don’t need the aid, and would have refused even if the amount was higher. The government should rather distribute the money to flood-affected people in the state,” the octogenarian said on Thursday.
She was admitted to a private hospital in eastern Assam’s Dibrugarh town after complaining of palpitation and respiratory problem. Doctors who attended to her said she is suffering from low blood pressure, joint pain and chronic cough.
